As part of his efforts towards repositioning the game of badminton in Nigeria, The President Badminton Federation of Nigeria Francis Orbih Esq, and members of the board have embark on states visit and meeting with major stakeholders on the how best to improve the game of badminton, marketing and secure sponsorship for both national and international competitions.
In Katsina, the president took his time to visit facilities both owned by government and private as well as individuals where he described the reception accorded him and his team as marvelous.
Addressing badminton families, the president told them that the new leadership of the board is working hard to improve the game of badminton and this necessitated the board to embark on a visit to see things for themselves and discussed with stakeholders ways of wooing sponsorship that will enhance and reposition the game in Nigeria.
He commended Alhaji Malik Anas for promoting the game with the establishment of the Golden Star badminton Club that he compared with Badminton academies in Badminton playing countries. He called on other well to do individuals to invest on sports especially badminton.
The Board also paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, the Emir of Katsina where they were accorded another wonderful reception. The Emir appreciated the Boards effort and encouraged them to work hard on taking the game to the grassroots especially schools. The Board rounded up their visit with a call at the Katsina State Ministry of Sport and Social development where the Permanent Secretary and the Director of Sports of the ministry both received them. According to the Permanent Secretary, it was the first time a Federation President was visiting the State officially. At the end of the visit, the Golden Star Badminton Club agreed to host and sponsor a Senior National Badminton Championship in November this year.
Similar visit is expected by the president and his team to other states such as Kaduna, Niger, Kwara, Lagos, Benue, Rivers, Bauchi, Delta as well as FCT among others all in an effort to create more awareness on plans and programmes the Board of the Federation has for the game.
