Lagos comes alive in this first edition of the “Lagos Badminton International
Classics”. The classics is organized by the Lagos State Government through the
Lagos State Badminton Association in collaboration with the Badminton Federation
of Nigeria.
The Classics is the highest category of Badminton World Federation sanctioned
championship to be hosted by any African country and a total cash prize of $
15,000 (fifteen Thousand dollars) is at stake. This power and the lure of the
Classics will capture the feeling and imagination of top players outside the
shores of Africa’s most populated nation – Nigeria.
Renowned badminton heavyweights will grace the classics. They include Zilberma
Misha (Israel), Shu Howard (USA), Frohlich Jan (CZE) and Dey Subhankar (India).
Players from Italy, Austria, Slovakia, France, South Africa, Botswana, Ghana and
Uganda will also be at the event.
Nigeria’s male team is led by Bulus Jinkan Ifraimu, Abah Enejor, Victor
Makanju, Ola Fagbemi and others, while, Grace Gabriel, Fatimah Azeez and Tosin
Atolagbe are some top ladies who will also add colour to the women’s event.
The military is not left out as the Police and the Nigerian Air Force will also
find time to step on the court during the classics.
The “Lagos Badminton International Classics” promises to rekindle the
interest of badminton lovers and take the game to the enviable higher heights.
Another side attraction is the raffle draws with winners going away with
fabulous prizes. There will also be a display of our cultural presentations.
Let us lift the game of badminton in Nigeria back to its rightful place.
